Asus Zenfone 5 VS Samsung Galaxy S9 – The Design
Like i said in introduction, the Asus Zenfone 5 looks similar to iPhone X in terms of body design. It comes with a glass front and back, just like the Samsung Galaxy S9. And with aluminum body also. It’s hard to see any 2018 high-end smartphone without a glass front and back with aluminum. Like it’s a trending stuff right now. The Asus Zenfone 5 at 7.9mm is slightly slimmer to the Samsung Galaxy S9 (8.5mm).
Aside being slimmer, the Asus Zenfone 5 is lighter in weight compared to the Samsung Galaxy S9. The Asus Zenfone 5 weighs 155 grams. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 is a little bit heavier weighing 163 grams. In body colors, the Asus Zenfone 5 is only available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 has more options than the Zenfone 5. The Galaxy S9 is available in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray and Lilac Purple body colors. Although some colors might not be available to specific countries.
The Asus Zenfone 5’s dual rear camera and the dual-LED flash is lined up in a vertical position at the top-left corner. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 doesn’t have a dual rear camera. Its rear camera is at the top-middle. Both phones fhave fingerprint sensors which is placed at the back. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is certified to be water/dust resistant. While the Asus Zenfone 5 is yet to undergo the test.

Sad to see Asus didn’t adopt the trending AMOLED screen for the Zenfone 5. It comes with the IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. The screen size is at 6.2 inch. Both the Asus Zenfone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S9 are bezel-less. And have the same 83.6% screen-to-body ratio. The Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8 inch screen size and Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The screen of the Galaxy S9 is protected by Corning gorilla glass 5. The Asus Zenfone 5’s screen is also protected by Corning gorilla glass but the version isn’t specified yet. In display resolution, the Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a better 1440 x 2960 pixels and 570 ppi density. While the Asus Zenfone 5 features a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels with 402 ppi density.
Asus Zenfone 5 VS Samsung Galaxy S9 – The Camera
Asus Zenfone 5 sports a dual 12MP f/1.8 aperture and 8MP f/2.0 aperture rear camera with dual-LED dual tone flash. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 rear camera features a resolution of 12MP f/1.5-2.4 aperture with LED flash. According to Samsung, the dual rear aperture on the Galaxy S9 switches automatically between themselves depending on light conditions. The f/1.5 aperture is for pictures in lowlight area. While the f/2.4 aperture is for pictures in broad daylight.
In the front camera, the Asus Zenfone 5 comes with a resolution of 8MP f/2.0 aperture. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a resolution of 8MP f/1.7 aperture.
Asus Zenfone 5 VS Samsung Galaxy S9 – Hardware and Software
Another let down from Asus on the Zenfone 5 is the hardware. It features a hardware that’s meant for mid-range smartphones. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset powers the Asus Zenfone 5 with Octa-core 1.8GhHz processor. Like why is it a high-range smartphone with such type of chipset. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Which is the latest Snapdragon version. Alongside an Octa-core 2.7GHz processor.
Both devices runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. The Asus Zenfone 5 comes with a 64GB internal storage. And two RAM variants; 4 and 6GB size. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 6GB RAM size. And three internal storage variants; 64, 128 and 256GB size.
Asus Zenfone 5 VS Samsung Galaxy S9 – The Battery
The only place Asus Zenfone 5 beats the Galaxy S9 is in battery life. The Zenfone 5 is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery. While a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery powers the Samsung Galaxy S9.
Asus Zenfone 5 VS Samsung Galaxy S9 – The Price
The Asus Zenfone 5 will be available at about $650 (227,500). And the Samsung Galaxy S9 goes for around $1,037 (N362,950). There is really a huge gap in price difference. But still the expensive Samsung Galaxy S9 has better specifications.
